IncrediBuilds

Insight Editions' new IncrediBuilds are popping pop culture off the page with collectible 3D wood models based on both licensed properties--including Harry Potter, Star Wars, and Marvel--and educational subjects like dinosaurs, sharks, and architectural wonders. Deluxe book sets include the model and a hardcover book about its respective subject full of facts, color illustrations and tips for customizing the models.

IncrediBuilds models are assembled piece-by-piece (see a video of a TIE Fighter coming together here) from Forest Stewardship Council-certified wood into a freestanding structure. There's no glue or tools required, and the wood is perfect for coloring or painting.

"The IncrediBuilds line stems from our experience in creating engaging and visually immersive experiences beyond publishing. It represents a creative building and crafting line that stimulates creativity, imagination, and learning," said Raoul Goff. "By encouraging kids to explore, design, and build, IncrediBuilds also helps foster an early love of STEAM [Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math]." Kids can read and learn about their favorite characters, animals, and monuments, but adults will find the building and decorating fun too. "These are tailor-made for the 'wood toy' parent as well--parents who prefer toys for their children made from more natural materials," adds Goff.

Executive editor Vanessa Lopez added, "For us, it's important to offer a product that allows interaction with something other than a computer, a phone, or television. These offer a way for both kids and adults to express their creativity and feel a sense of accomplishment in the end." Many collectible models on the market focus heavily on the display element, but don't necessarily offer a customization component. By contrast, with IncrediBuilds, customers both build and color their models as they choose. "They make them their own," Lopez said. The book also offers customization tips and ideas: the R2-D2 book offers three possible examples: the classic blue-and-white R2-D2, the slightly less clean R2-D2 in the Dagobah swamp or R2-Q5, the black-and-bronze droid.

Summer titles are already available, including two from the Harry Potter universe (House Elves and Quidditch, with models of Dobby and a Snitch, respectively) and two from Star Wars (TIE Fighter and R2-D2). Tyrannosaurus rexButterflyGreat White Sharks, and Eiffel Tower were just released in July; Teenage Mutant Ninja TurtlesFinding Dory, and Captain America in August; more models from Harry Potter and Star Wars, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, and Assassin's Creed, are planned for the fall, including a Batmobile and an Iron Man bust, as well as an owl and spider among the educational models. More releases are scheduled into 2017. They range in price from $15.99 to $19.99 or higher for more complex models.
