The Heyday Events and Publicity Manager is responsible for planning, managing, and publicizing events that promote Heyday’s titles and organizational mission. He or she also manages fundraising events with development staff. This position reports to the Sales Manager and works collaboratively with the Marketing Manager and the Development Director. On certain projects, the Events and Publicity Manager will report directly to the Publisher/Executive Director. This is a full-time, salaried position with benefits. Author events. Work with sales/marketing staff and authors to develop promotional strategies for each title; conduct research on, and reach out to, appropriate venues and organizations; work with author and venue on event details (date, location, author travel and honorarium, food and drink, book sales, etc.); publicize events on Heyday’s website, through monthly email blasts, on outside websites and print media, and through cosponsoring organizations’ outlets. Manage Heyday cosponsorship of events run by other organizations. Plan and execute miscellaneous events hosted by Heyday.

Fundraising events. Work with development staff to create programs for Heyday’s fundraisers; select and reserve appropriate venues, food, and beverages; coordinate the design, mailing, and tracking of invitations; manage all necessary paperwork, from event sponsorship agreements to day-of permits; and provide day-of logistical support.

Conferences. Represent Heyday at industry conferences throughout the state. Arrange travel; select, pack, display, and sell books; and field acquisitions-related and other questions from conference attendees.

Publicity. Work with the Marketing Manager to solicit media coverage for titles and for Heyday as a cultural institution. Assist with book mailings and media correspondence.

Community outreach. Fulfill desk copy requests; mentor interns with Marketing Manager.


  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
  • Driver’s license and access to vehicle.
  • Ability to work occasional overtime or irregular hours.
  • Experience in successful event management.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Social media savvy required; experience with HTML and Salesforce a plus.
