Callisto Media, one of Publishers Weekly’s fastest-growing U.S. publishers, is seeking a talented full-time Art Manager. Callisto is a fast-paced and successful startup at the forefront of a new publishing venture, creating books in Cooking, Health, Diet, Business, Crafts, Reference, and Fitness, among other genres. The Art Manager position is an exciting opportunity to be a part of our growing team of award-winning Designers. The ideal candidate will have proven experience specifying photography and illustration, coordinating and managing photo shoots, and maintaining digital asset management systems, as well as an established track record in collaborating successfully with in-house design and editorial teams. Responsibilities

  • Report to the Lead Art Manager and collaborate closely with Design and Editorial colleagues
  • Allocate and manage photo research, photography, illustration, and retouching resources
  • Coordinate and manage photo shoots
  • Negotiate and manage image licensing
  • Assist Senior Art Manager in organizing and maintaining a robust digital asset management system
  • Conduct supplementary photo research
  • Maintain art and budget logs for all products
  • Assist Lead Art Manager in managing vendor accounts and relationships
  • Adhere to demanding schedules and help uphold high design quality standards
  • Provide support to Supervisors and Designers on photo and illustration production, and administrative tasks


Desired Skills and Experience

  • At least 3 years art management experience in an editorial or commercial environment
  • Experience in food and lifestyle photography a must
  • Strong problem-solving skills and excellent attention to detail  
  • Superior organizational skills with ability to multi-task, prioritize assignments, and meet tight deadlines  
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of print production process
  • Ability to take initiative while working collaboratively with Design colleagues
  • Adaptability in a fast-paced and dynamic startup environment  
  • Expert proficiency in Photoshop and Acrobat; working knowledge of Illustrator and InDesign
  • Bachelor’s degree in photography or equivalent education and experience
