Phaidon publishes exquisite and beautiful books in the art, design, architecture, fashion, culinary, and children’s fields. We are seeking a New York City based sales representative to sell our entire line to our New York area accounts, which includes leading bookstores, museums, children’s, design and fashion accounts,  and to identify new, and creative opportunities to sell Phaidon’s books. 

Job Overview:

The New York City Sales Representative for Phaidon is responsible for selling frontlist and backlist books from Phaidon to bookstores, museums, galleries, and other non-traditional venues in the New York metro area. In addition to managing existing relationships, he or she will identify and execute additional sales opportunities including: new account development, pop-ups with key partners, author/special sales in and around New York, managing sales at special events (book signings, launch parties, book fairs, etc.). The sales representative will handle all customer inquiries and manage orders from receipt to processing with our distributor. He or she will report to our North American Sales Director.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage active accounts: key bookstores, museum/gallery accounts, and non-traditional retail outlets (fashion/design boutiques, children’s specialty, home goods, garden supply, etc)

  • Present frontlist titles throughout the year and maintain regular backlist sales year-round, leveraging sales materials, promotions, sales conference training, etc.

  • Communicate key features of individual titles, advise on title selection, identify sales and merchandising opportunities – collaborate with marketing team to maximise those opportunities

  • Identify new business opportunities and open new accounts

  • Work with sales team to set up and staff Phaidon’s presence at trade shows and at public fairs

  • Manage pop-up opportunities in museums and retail

  • Assist in merchandising and executing sales-related collateral

  • Liaise with publishers and marketing team to execute author bulk sales

  • Manage the sales component of NY-based commerce events such as signings, launches, book parties, etc.

  • Analyze sales trends, gap analysis with accounts, sell-through data, etc.

     

Capabilities:

  • 3-5 years in publisher sales or book retail, preferably in illustrated-book publishing

  • Knowledge of art, design, contemporary culture, cooking and/or children’s books a plus

  • Must be articulate, self-motivated, and sales oriented

  • Proficient in Excel and other PC-specific programs
