Position: Full-Time

The Experiment is seeking a full-time Associate Publicist to join our fast-growing independent publishing company.

Responsibilities include:

  • Assisting in developing and implementing media campaigns and marketing plans for individual titles
  • Overseeing media publicity mailings and follow-up via email and phone as required
  • Creating press releases, sell sheets, newsletters, postcards, and other promotional materials
  • Working closely with the Publicity and Marketing Director on building and maintaining relationships and connections with media contacts across various genres
  • Compiling and distributing weekly publicity reports
  • Working closely with the Publicity and Marketing Director on coordinating with other departments and maintaining communication with authors
  • Maintaining and developing company social media (including blog, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.)
  • Some assisting in maintenance of publicity and marketing budget
  • Assisting in conceptualizing, organizing, and implementing author tours on select titles and planning exhibits at events including BEA and the Brooklyn Book Festival
  • Writing, copyediting, and proofreading publicity, marketing, and some sales and advertising materials
  • Some assisting in preparation for biannual sales conference and assembling sales kits and materials 
  • Training and supervising of interns in daily publicity tasks

We seek a candidate with some publicity or marketing experience who is extremely curious and attuned to current trends, thinks creatively, is an unceasing initiative-taker and happy to work both independently and collaboratively, and who has superlative communication skills.

Candidates must have:

  • A Bachelor’s degree
  • 1-3 years previous experience in Media Publicity and Marketing Communication useful
  • Excellent organizational, verbal, and written communications skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to multi-task across activities and projects
  • A strong interest in nonfiction publishing, especially in the areas in which The Experiment publishes
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; knowledge of Cision, HTML, Photoshop, and InDesign a plus
