Politics and Prose needs booksellers at both its flagship store on Connecticut Ave. in northwest Washington, DC, and at its branch at The Wharf in southwest Washington. These are separate fulltime positions.
The jobs require excellent customer service skills, extensive knowledge of books, and the ability to perform physically and mentally taxing tasks. Experience in retail is strongly preferred. Bookselling experience is even better. Booksellers have regular schedules that include working some nights and at least one weekend shift.
Duties include assisting customers with book selections, operating cash registers, answering phones, carrying and unpacking boxes, shelving books, and designing and maintaining displays. To do well in these positions, booksellers must have an abiding love for books and ideas, the ability to multitask, an impeccable eye for detail, fantastic written and verbal communication skills, curiosity and a willingness to learn P&P’s systems, a cooperative spirit and goal-oriented attitude, and of course they must be punctual and dependable.
