Mountains & Plains Independent Booksellers Association (MPIBA) is looking for a Marketing & Communications Manager

The primary responsibility of the Marketing & Communications Manager is to assist the Executive Director in achieving the goals set by the Board of Directors by overseeing association communications (via email, website, social media, and other avenues), managing association marketing & advertising, developing advertising revenue, and designing association marketing materials.

Specific job duties include but are not limited to:

  • Sell advertising and develop new ad revenue streams/opportunities

  • Create and schedule email communications

  • Create and schedule advertisements

  • Oversee, update, and maintain association website content

  • Design and produce printed and digital marketing materials, signage, programs, catalogs, brochures, and more

  • Holiday Catalog

    • Work with ED to manage design and printing

      • Graphic Design

      • Research printers, request bids/price quotes

      • Coordinate with Shelf Awareness for digital catalog

      • Copy editing, oversee proof process

    • Produce marketing materials for bookstores

  • Meet regularly with Executive Director (and other staff if appropriate) for planning and organizational conversations

  • Attend board meetings when appropriate

  • Travel to attend Fall Discovery Show, Spring Conferences, and other industry events as appropriate


  • Strong understanding of online, email and social media marketing and best practices.

  • Strong understanding of graphic design and production principles.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Experience in developing marketing strategy and executing innovative and successful marketing initiatives.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and work effectively under deadline pressure.

  • Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills.

  • A flexible team player able to take on shifting responsibilities as needs arise.

  • Excellent writing, communication, customer service, and interpersonal skills.

  • Experience in bookselling, publishing, or related fields is extremely desirable.

The Marketing & Communications Manager will work from a home office, and must live in the MPIBA region.

Salary range: $37,000 to $42,000 (commensurate with experience), plus 8% annual SEP contribution when possible and in-home office reimbursement.

We are a not-for-profit professional association of locally-owned bookstores, booksellers, and industry professionals. The Association was formed over 45 years ago in Denver and has grown to include booksellers in Arizona, Colorado, Kansas, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, and Wyoming.
