Bookstore Manager

Position: Full-Time

The Center Books Manager will oversee all procedures of the bookstore including staff hiring, training, scheduling, and all day-to-day operations; front and backlist buying and weekly restocking; special orders, website orders, trade memberships and conferences. Act as liaison to publishers, local community, outside inventory system partners, in-house program director, and financial department. Reports to The Center for Fiction Managing Director and works closely with other staff.

Qualifications:

At least 3 years bookstore experience at a management level ideal, with excellent staff management and organizational skills, as well as computer, communication, personal customer service/retail and interpersonal skills. Must be flexible when necessary about schedule, and available for overseeing evening in-store programming when required. Experience with Bookmanager especially helpful. Manager to start 10/8/18 offsite to hire staff, train on systems, and help with store set-up in November. 

Salary commensurate with experience, and includes an excellent benefit package.

About Center Books (The Center for Fiction):

Center Books is a new independent bookstore within the revitalized and expanded Center for Fiction, opening to the public in Brooklyn in December 2018.

The store will focus on fiction, including fiction in translation and related nonfiction such as essays, biographies and memoirs, criticism and books about writing. Other emphases include independent presses, a strong crime fiction section; graphic novels and work related to the programming of the cultural organizations near The Center.
