Associate Director of Publicity - Ecco Books

Position: Full-Time

We are seeking an Associate Director of Publicity who will work closely with the Publicity Director on the strategic vision, and direction of all publicity efforts related to books published by the Ecco imprint.

Responsibilities:

  • Handles key authors/title campaigns each season to ensure success.
  • Books local and national publicity in broadcast and print media as well as bookstore tours; schedules author travel.
  • Works closely with Publicity Director in national media meetings.
  • Oversees the creation of press releases, pitch letters, promotional materials and arrangement of special events, conferences, etc.
  • Develops and strengthens bookseller contacts and relationships with the marketplace/industry.
  • Ensures strong relationships with existing authors and builds relationships with potential future authors.
  • Develops and maintains close working relationships with members of the press (broadcast, radio, print, online, blogs, trades, etc.)
  • Attends division meetings and events, and travels as part of author tours and conference participation where applicable.
  • Liaises with key departments like marketing, sales, and editorial to ensure a cohesive message is being made throughout marketing/publicity initiatives.
  • Briefs authors on how to handle interviews; develops media contacts; accompanies authors on interviews.
  • Coordinates all publicity activities on assigned titles from the mailing of galleys to the development of proper angles and pitches; schedules and plans bookstore appearances and special events; coordinates publicity updates for division and sales force.
  • Participates in the publication planning process for all titles.
  • Coordinates outreach to authors, publicity plans, budgets and publicist work assignments.
  • Shares supervision of junior level employee.
  • Schedules author travel.


Qualifications:

  • At least 5-6 years of hands on book publicity experience, with increasing levels of responsibility for campaign and people management
  • Extensive media contacts with strong relationships within the marketplace
  • Demonstrated generalist experience working on a range of campaigns including non-fiction, literary fiction, commercial fiction with interest in poetry and cookbooks
  • Ability to work under pressure, to meet tight deadlines with budgetary constraints and changing priorities (must be extremely flexible and versatile)
  • Creative, forward-thinking team player
  • Must be able to handle multiple projects and responsibilities simultaneously
  • Superb written, verbal and interpersonal skills are essential as is an ability to speak and think clearly and creatively and generate new ideas on a regular basis
