Gothamist's Rebecca Fishbein explored her picks for the "best independent bookstores in NYC," noting that bookshops "are my happy places, and whenever I get 'the mean reds' I make my way to one, if just to stand in the aisles for a few minutes and run my hands along the spines. In some respects, bookstores--both independent and chain--have been disappearing, murdered first by Amazon and second by the death of print.
