5015 Connecticut Ave NW, Washington, DC, United States, 20008
Politics and Prose Bookstore on Connecticut Avenue is always busy with customers browsing, nightly author events, and regular classes and programs. The booksellers are responsible for making sure it all runs smoothly. It’s a lively work environment that offers a varied workday ranging from moving boxes of books to offering personal book recommendations to—always and above all—providing top-notch customer service. Every day, booksellers help customers find books, shelve books and maintain displays, operate cash registers, take special orders, and answer phones.
Bookseller positions are full-time (40hrs/wk). All booksellers work at least one morning, one evening, and one weekend shift each week. Booksellers must be able to stay calm under pressure, juggle many tasks, retain a lot of information, stand on their feet for 8 hours at a time, and lift boxes of books (usually 25-30lbs each), all while maintaining a polite and professional demeanor with customers. This is a fast-paced job. It is mentally and physically taxing.
