Children's Department Manager

Position: Full-Time

Quail Ridge Books is an equal opportunity employer seeking a creative, highly-motivated book lover to lead the award-winning children's department of our 9000 square foot independent bookstore. This position requires someone with a strong background in children's and YA literature, with excellent customer service and hand-selling skills, who is able to manage, delegate, and prioritize tasks in a dynamic store with many high-profile events.

Specific duties and goals:

-Manage a team of booksellers including training, scheduling, staff meetings, and staff evaluations. Also liaising with other departments including events coordinators, publicity department, buyers, and other store managers.

-Manage buying and returns for the children's and teen department. Oversee displays and maintain an attractive department that generates sales.

-Manage all children and teen events, including story times, book clubs, field trips, in-store book fairs, and author events. This includes submitting event proposals, liaising with publicists and/or authors on event details, coordinating with the QRB publicity team, overseeing email newsletters, and overseeing events.

-Model and train on excellent customer service, warm hospitality and hand-selling.

Some nights and weekends required; hours and daily schedule will vary.

Benefits include health insurance (60/40), life insurance, vacation, sick days. Salary will be negotiable based on qualifications and experience.
