Events and Marketing Manager

Position: Full-Time

Moon Palace Books (Minneapolis, MN), is searching for an Events and Marketing Manager. Moon Palace Books hosts hundreds of events a year, including in-store and offsite author events, book clubs, storytimes, community events, music, farmers markets, author signings, meetings, weddings, and parties.

The Events and Marketing Manager reports to the management team and is responsible for supervising staff, securing and coordinating author events, coordinating with the music programmer, and expanding Moon Palace’s marketing reach in a variety of areas. The Events Manager is involved in community relations and acts as a face of the store while working with neighborhood organizations, schools, and surrounding businesses.

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to): 

  • Submitting persuasive author event proposals and working closely with publishers and authors to book both in-store and offsite events.

  • Working with the publicity departments of publishers to confirm, coordinate, promote and execute 5-10 events per week ranging in attendance from 12 - 2,000+ people.

  • Cooperating with the store’s management team to plan all in-store and off-site event logistics, including staffing, scheduling, customer and staff communications, and every aspect of facilitating efficient and pleasant small to large-scale events and book signings.

  • Organizing and developing a robust event space rental program, 

  • Developing and implementing marketing strategies for Moon Palace and its author/book events, including overseeing the creation of event copy; print calendar; advertising; e-newsletters; social media outreach; media outreach; and event-specific promotional campaigns.

  • Overseeing the creation of monthly print newsletters and yearly holiday catalog including approving costs, printing deadlines, and creative aspects.

  • Working with publisher sales representatives and the store’s buyers to develop strategies to promote key titles, keep up with forthcoming releases, and communicate about trends in the bookselling world. This may include representing Moon Palace at BEA and within our regional trade association.

  • Ensuring that details of the store’s events are communicated in a timely and efficient manner to the frontline booksellers and other store staff.

  • Working closely with authors and publishers on pre-order campaigns, subscription programs, creative launch parties, and special marketing and programming to connect them with readers both in the store and online.

  • Oversee Moon Palace’s social media channels to engage with authors, readers and publishers; promote events and programming; and strengthen Moon Palace’s brand on a daily basis. 

  • Overseeing all aspects of Moon Palace’s website, including event listings, updating content, and troubleshooting. 

 
Ideal Candidates will have/be:

  • No fewer than three years experience with event management (preference given to bookstore event management).

  • Marketing and social media experience.

  • Ability to manage long-term projects while juggling the demands of a full events calendar.

  • Experience as a bookseller, preferably in a managerial role. Ability to work well in a team. 

  • Comfortable with project management software and proficiency with spreadsheets.

  • Comfortable with public speaking and able to interact with a large audience.

  • Understand Moon Palace’s unique vision and commitment to equity.

  • Able to lift 40 lbs and spend long hours on your feet.


Schedule:
Full time / 40 hours per week, may include floor shifts as well as administrative time.

Compensation: This is a salaried position $33,000 - $36,000 per year.

Founded in 2012, Moon Palace moved into a newly renovated 6000 square foot building in November 2017, with multiple, flexible event spaces, including an outdoor courtyard, dedicated event room, and a full service restaurant.
