Branch Book Buyer

Position: Full-Time

Politics and Prose is seeking a Branch Book Buyer.  This is a full-time (40 hours per week) exempt position that works collectively with the Director of Branch Operations and will report to the Chief Adult Book Buyer. The Branch Book Buyer is required to work at both The Wharf and Union Market locations.  They will work closely with the branch staff and get to know the broader community at each branch location in order to create a highly curated inventory that meets each store’s needs and increases sales accordingly. 

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Place frontlist orders for both The Wharf and Union Market locations, under direction of Chief Adult Book Buyer
  • Restock branches
  • Create and pull publisher returns for branch locations
  • Manage, troubleshoot, and clean up inventory; frontlist and backlist POs; and inventory cards
  • Cover branch floor shifts as required and as determined by Director of Branch Operations
  • In coordination with the Director of Branch Operations, take an active role in frontlisting and merchandising store displays
  • Coordinate with adult sidelines buyers on sidelines inventory and merchandising
  • Coordinate with Children & Teens department on frontlist/backlist titles and sidelines merchandise

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Thorough knowledge of publishers and publisher ordering programs
  • Exceptional knowledge of authors
  • Wide knowledge of the reading interests of the clientele of Politics and Prose
  • Extensive experience with IBID and its ordering, receiving, returning, transferring, and inventory tracking functionalities
  • Familiarity and experience with Edelweiss
  • Possess the ability to work well with and train a diverse range of staff
  • Previous buying experience required
