Village Books and Paper Dreams

Events Coordinator is responsible for overseeing every facet of the events that Village Books and Paper Dreams hosts. Our two locations, Bellingham and Lynden, Washington have historically hosted more than 300 events a year both in store (including book groups, writing groups, author events, shopping nights, story times, etc.) and offsite (including our Chuckanut Radio Hour, Chuckanut Writers Conference, Childrens Literature Conference, Mount Baker Theater, etc.), and we collaborate with many nonprofits, schools, churches, libraries, and other offsite venues. We are looking for a highly organized, personable, and communicative leader who can manage a team of event hosts, organize and promote author events, and collaborate with the marketing team on publicizing our events to the public. This job sometimes requires you to lift up to 40 pounds and stand for long periods of time. 

Ideal candidates will have: 

• Excellent communication skills and confidence representing Village Books and Paper Dreams within the community and bookselling industry. 
• Leadership skills and the ability to manage the event team and work with front line booksellers to educate them on the event program. 
• The ability to juggle and prioritize a large volume of tasks. 
• Strong time management skills and a flexible schedule, with the ability to self-motivate.

Requirements: 

• Must have valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to travel to and from off-site events.
• Weekend and evening availability.

Compensation and Benefits: 

This is an hourly position starting at $23.25 an hour. Benefits include employee discount, access to healthcare, paid time off, and retirement plan. Other benefits may include invitations to participate in regional/national book conferences, attending publisher/author dinners, and connecting with the larger bookselling/publishing community.

Village Books and Paper Dreams is a full-service, mission-based, independent bookstore and gift shop located in the Historic Fairhaven Village on the southside of Bellingham and in the iconic Waples Mercantile Building in Lynden, Washington.
