Barnes & Noble plans to open a new bookstore in early 2027 at the Westpost development in the Pentagon City neighborhood of Arlington, Va. Washington Business Journal reported that plans and permits are under review by Arlington County for the approximately 11,000-square-foot store at 1301 S. Joyce St.
In a statement, Westpost owner Federal Realty Investment Trust described B&N as an "important addition" to the mixed-use development. Westpost combines hundreds of residential units with about 300,000 square feet of retail and commercial space on nearly 14 acres.
"Bookstores have an enduring role in the retail landscape, serving as destinations for discovery, learning and community connection," Federal Realty said. "At Westpost, that translates to a use that is both highly relevant to today's consumers and supportive of the property's continued evolution."
This will be B&N's second Arlington location, joining a 14,000-square-foot bookstore in Clarendon that reopened in early May after a major remodel, Washington Business Journal noted.
