Net sales of books rose 13.8% to $773.8 million in October and for the year to date fell 0.3% to $7.8 billion, according to
sales data from 81 publishers compiled by the Association of American
Publishers.

- Adult hardcover, up 29.4%, to $295.1 million
- Adult mass market, up 25%, to $76.4 million
- University press paperback, up 13.2%, to $5.3 million
- Higher education, down 15.9%
- Children's/YA paperback, down 9.5%, to $52.3 million
- Religious books, down 4.1%, to $72.3 million
