A shortlist has been unveiled for this year's £25,000 (about $32,580) Walter Scott Prize for Historical Fiction, which "celebrates quality, innovation and longevity of writing in the English language, and is open to books first published in the previous year in the U.K., Ireland or the Commonwealth." The winner will be named June 15 during the Baillie Gifford Borders Book Festival in Melrose, Scotland. This year's shortlisted titles are:

The shortlist has been released for the £30,000 (about $39,405) International Dylan Thomas Prize, which is sponsored by Swansea University and recognizes the "best published literary work in the English language, written by an author aged 39 or under." The winner will be unveiled May 16, just after International Dylan Thomas Day on May 14. This year's six shortlisted titles, including one story collection and five novels, are:
