Word Up Community Bookshop in New York City hosted its biggest event since the pandemic: more than 1,000 people came to the United Palace Theater in Washington Heights to celebrate Julia Alvarez’s new novel, The Cemetery of Untold Stories (Algonquin). Alvarez (right) was in conversation with Angie Cruz (left) and Elizabeth Acevedo, two fellow Dominican-American bestselling authors. The store staged the conversation to look like it was happening in a casita in the Dominican Republic, and Alvarez said that it reminded her of the house of her main character in the novel.
