In a video accompanying a Buffalo News story about how indie bookstores are booming, Jonathon Welch, a co-founder of Talking Leaves, Buffalo, N.Y., describes how his store has weathered ups and downs since its founding in 1975: by "stocking the books that other people didn't, featuring authors and writers from underrepresented populations throughout the country and around the world. We've managed to survive... largely by sticking to what it is that we believe in and what we do best and trying to keep representing those communities that haven't been represented."
