Atomic Books, Baltimore, Md., Expanding

Atomic Books in Baltimore, Md., will expand this fall and more than triple in size, Baltimore Fishbowl reported. Located at 3620 Falls Rd. in Baltimore's Hampden Village, Atomic Books will take over the second floor of its building, going from about 2,000 square feet to 6,600 square feet. Initally, the second floor--a space that was once a bowling alley--will be open on weekends and by appointment while the first floor operates unchanged. After that, co-owners Rachel Whang and Benn Ray may make adjustments as needed.

"Our tagline has always been, 'Literary Finds for Mutated Minds,' " Ray wrote in a message announcing the expansion. "We simply need more room to carry the sorts of things we like to carry. So we're taking over the second floor of our building, and we'll be filling it with even more 'Literary Finds for Mutated Minds.' "

Founded in 1992, Atomic Books specializes in indie comics and small press titles and has a bar called Eightbar. It has occupied its current home for 20 years. The store is also where John Waters receives his fan mail and is something of a hub for the writer and filmmaker.
