AMC+ has picked up the series Smilla's Sense of Snow, based on Peter Høeg's bestselling 1992 novel. Deadline reported that Amma Asante and Clive Bradley (Trapped) are behind the series adaptation. The book also inspired a 1997 movie adaptation, starring Julia Ormond and directed by Bille August.
Directed by BAFTA winner Asante (The Handmaid's Tale), the new project stars Filippa Coster-Waldau, Elyas M'Barek, and Henry Lloyd-Hughes. The cast also includes Amanda Collin, Morten Suurballe, Silver Wolfe, Set Sjöstrand, and Alexandre Willaume.
The series is set in Copenhagen, Denmark, in 2040, where a surveillance state is under threat from an impending energy crisis. From the synopsis: "Smilla is alone and leads a withdrawn life until she meets a young Inuit boy who finds a way to her heart. When the boy suddenly dies in mysterious circumstances, Smilla's search for answers leads her to Greenland and to the center of dangerous political power games."
