HarperCollins, which is in the process of building a huge, state-of-the-art supply chain logistics facility in Brownsburg, Ind., has decided to close its Buffalo, N.Y., warehouse early in 2028. The new Indiana warehouse, near Indianapolis, is scheduled to open next year and will handle distribution for all North American titles.
In August 2025, HarperCollins announced plans to build the Brownsburg warehouse, saying it will be a 1.6 million square feet facility that will use "the most advanced technology available to improve efficiency, enhance fulfillment accuracy, reduce waste, and increase visibility and control over the supply chain." The warehouse will have the capacity to ship more than 300 million books annually.
For about 15 years, HarperCollins outsourced distribution and logistics, unlike other major U.S. publishers, and had consolidated to one warehouse from five. That approach changed last year.
