Candlewick Press, a leading publisher of books for children, is seeking a National Account Manager to sell our Candlewick, Holiday House and Peachtree lists to Amazon. Reporting to the Director of Retail Sales with the management of one (1) account assistant, this position provides an exciting opportunity to work closely with marketing, inventory, and production to position our titles and lists for maximum exposure, sales, and growth.
Key responsibilities will include but not be limited to the following:
- Selling our books to this established and high-volume retailer, including regular sales calls, periodic business reviews, and management of a cooperative advertising pool
- Analyzing search and consumer trends to implement metadata best practices for both backlist and frontlist initiatives
- Setting annual business goals and updating regularly
- Communicating to internal partners at all levels regarding major account activity.
- Participating in in-house meetings
- Providing regular business and title feedback to publishing and sales management via written reports, new title call reports, and in-person discussions
- Participating in title planning and providing feedback and information flow to editorial, marketing, production, and inventory departments
- Responsibility for critical sales analysis of POS in order to maximize supply chain efficiencies while working closely with inventory management to secure appropriate stock
- Conducting regular quality assurance checks to ensure all online retailer product pages are optimized
- Working in conjunction with coordinator to prepare sales call and title submission materials, including PowerPoints and Excel grids
- Strategically positioning backlist/frontlist titles on Amazon based on consumer behavior, search trends, and competitive analysis
- Identifying opportunities to align metadata with marketing campaigns with an emphasis on implementing key search trends, consumer reviews, and web content optimization to maximize discoverability and conversion
Requirements:
Significant proven experience in book publishing with direct selling experience is required. Relevant Amazon experience including familiarity with retailer functions and account management is a plus. A keen knowledge of children’s books and the competitive marketplace as well as excellent sales analysis skills, including building a business plan, and ability to translate big picture strategy into clear measurable account tactics is essential. The ideal candidate will also be a self-motivated self-starter who is able to manage time effectively and meet deadlines consistently, with excellent written and verbal communication skills (experience with public speaking preferred), experienced with MS Excel, MS Word, MS PowerPoint and other relevant computer programming, and have excellent attention to detail. They must also be willing to travel on occasion.
This is a full-time position based in Somerville, MA or New York, NY with the option for hybrid work. The salary range starts at $75,000 and is commensurate with experience.
