The Book of Dust: The Rose Field (Book of Dust #3)

Philip Pullman

The first book in Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials series was published in the U.K. in 1995. The book, Northern Lights, received Britain's highest award for children's titles: the Carnegie Medal for Writing. In 1996, Northern Lights made its way to the U.S. as The Golden Compass; The Subtle Knife followed in 1997; and The Amber Spyglass came out in 2000. Pullman's series of children's books were so groundbreaking, so beloved, and so utterly absorbing that Pullman has continued to publish additions to the world, such as the stunning compilation of all three books that features "lantern slides," little views into the lives of the main characters post trilogy.

But the series wasn't done. In 2017, the author gave readers the first book in the sequel series The Book of Dust, La Belle Sauvage, about how protagonist Lyra landed in place for The Golden Compass. Pullman jumps forward to Lyra's adulthood in 2019's The Secret Commonwealth, displaying a rift between Lyra and her dæmon Pantalaimon. This fall, The Rose Field, Pullman's finish to the additional trio, will be released, bringing Lyra and Pantalaimon back together in what may be a deadly encounter.
