Position: Full-Time, Hybrid

Independent children's publisher Nosy Crow is seeking a highly organized self-starter to serve as Managing Editor at its US-based subsidiary, Nosy Crow, Inc. This is a hybrid position with a minimum of 3 days/week in our Lincoln, Massachusetts, office outside of Boston. Come join our small but mighty team in a collegial, fast-paced environment!

The position requires both strong attention to detail and the ability to maintain a big-picture perspective on operations. The ideal candidate is someone upbeat and flexible who will foster positive relationships with team members in our small US office and with our wider team in the UK.

Responsibilities

  • Support the US editorial team, handling approximately 100 titles per year, coordinating with our UK-based editorial, design, and production teams
  • Establish workflows, identify and implement best practices, and create style guidelines and standards working collaboratively with the US and UK teams
  • Set, manage, update, and maintain schedules for all US titles, in conversation with editors, designers, and production staff
  • Enter and maintain metadata in internal database (familiarity with Biblio preferred)
  • Attend departmental meetings, including bi-weekly production meetings for the novelty, picture book, nonfiction, and fiction teams
  • Schedule, plan, and manage select seasonal meetings, such as Programming and Launch
  • Create, manage, and track schedules for sales materials, launch, and sales conference, alongside the marketing, publicity, and our out-of-house sales team
  • Copyedit select board books and picture books as well as jackets, covers, and various marketing materials
  • Review passes of select projects
  • Hire and manage freelance proofreaders, copyeditors, and editors
  • Americanize select board books and picture books and review the Americanization of select longer projects

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5+ years’ managing editorial experience in children’s book publishing
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Must be detailed-oriented and able to set priorities under pressure
  • High-level understanding of title management systems, ONIX release schedules, and book metadata requirements. Familiarity with Biblio strongly preferred
  • Excellent copyediting and proofreading skills; knowledge of industry standards, including the Chicago Manual of Style
  • Deep understanding of American English and familiarity with British English

The salary for this position is $65,000-$70,000The salary range listed is specific to this position and takes into account various factors including the specifics of the role and candidate’s relevant experience and qualifications.
