This is an exciting opportunity to join Candlewick Press, Holiday House and Peachtree, some of the world’s leading publishers of books and content for young readers, renowned for truly original publishing and outstanding quality. We are seeking an Associate National Accounts Manager to join our retail sales team working with Barnes & Noble, Books-A-Million, Independent Bookstores, and Ingram. Reporting to a National Account Manager & Executive Director of Independent Retail, the ideal candidate has a proactive and analytic mindset with an eye for detail. Commercial acumen and sales analysis skills are also vital. A background in publishing or bookselling is required, and a passion for children’s books is a plus.
Working in a supportive team across Barnes & Noble, Books-A-Million, Ingram, and independent bookstores areas, this is a varied role which gives the perfect next step for someone keen to progress their career in sales towards account management, with the chance to learn from more senior colleagues and work closely with contacts at key accounts.
Key responsibilities will include but not be limited to the following:
- Support one National Account Manager and one Executive Director in the day-to-day management of four distinct customers/sales channels (Barnes & Noble, Books-A-Million, Independent Bookstores, and Ingram), working with them to maximize growth, understand key title opportunities, and strategize and execute sales initiatives.
- Become an expert on vendor portals in order to create weekly opportunity grids, run reports, upload assets, complete data analysis, market share intelligence, title activation, and assist with identifying inventory stock-up recommendations and reports on title trends.
- Assist in preparation for sales presentations/conferences by creating Edelweiss collections, PowerPoint decks, Excel grids, and presenting titles.
- Act as day-to-day contact for our team of 20 field reps.
- Become lead for CWP’s annual Shop Local program for independent bookstores nationwide.
- Support comp title research and assist with comp title data uploads for all four vendors.
- Attend and participate in meetings with the ability to share ideas and opportunities to grow the business.
- Ability to work as part of a team, particularly when asked to execute ad hoc projects that arise unexpectedly, including solving urgent issues or addressing sudden needs with immediate attention.
Requirements:
- Minimum of 1-3 years of sales experience in an account management role is preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to interact with colleagues across all levels of an organization.
- Strong analytical skills.
- Experience with MS Office – strong proficiency with Excel a must.
- Self-starter with strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines on multiple projects with attention to detail.
- Ability to quickly adapt to changing priorities and generate solutions in a fast-paced environment.
This is a full-time position based in New York, NY or Somerville, MA with the option for hybrid work. The annual salary range for this role is $50,000-$60,000 and is commensurate with experience.
