W. W. Norton & Company, Inc. is seeking to hire a Senior Editor to build a program in commercial and/or genre fiction. This is an opportunity for an entrepreneurial and market-focused editor to establish a presence for Norton in commercial, book club, upmarket, and/or genre fiction (from mystery/thriller/suspense to crime or SFF). The ideal candidate will possess the skills to clearly articulate and convey their publishing vision to colleagues as well as to the wider world of retailers and readers.
Essential Job Responsibilities Include:
- Acquiring 10 titles per year
- Meeting minimum revenue thresholds on a yearly basis
- All editorial aspects of book development, including manuscript development and editing; copywriting, including jacket, catalog, and other marketing copy as required; liaising with art and production departments as needed
- Maintaining publishing and production schedules and meeting deadlines
- Presenting titles at sales meetings and elsewhere as needed
- Developing and maintaining relationships with authors and agents
- Serving as the primary contact for the author throughout the process
- Attending relevant conferences
- Managing or co-managing an assistant

Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher
- Employment eligibility to work with W. W. Norton & Company in the US
- At least five years of editorial experience
- Must be able to work from Norton’s New York City headquarters
- Excellent organizational, verbal, and written communications skills
- Must be creative, pro-active, flexible, and adaptable
Compensation and Benefits*
Currently available benefits include:
- Annual compensation for this position is between $95,000 and $115,000. All salaries and salary ranges posted by Norton may vary depending on experience, skills, location, and like considerations.
