Job Description: Special Sales Manager
The Special Sales Manager at Greenlight Bookstore is responsible for managing and growing book sales outside of the bookstore sales floor, including ecommerce sales, bulk and institutional sales, subscriptions, and offsite event sales. They supervise and direct the Buying & Ecommerce Assistant and ecommerce booksellers on regular order processing, customer service via email, and special projects including partnered wish lists, preorder campaigns, virtual book fairs, and other projects. They coordinate with the Events & Marketing Manager and the Buying & Inventory Manager on logistics and book orders for subscription sales, unstaffed offsite sales, school book fairs & author visits, and other sales opportunities that arise. They work with institutional clients on bulk sales, wishlists, and custom orders, and work to actively increase these sales through outreach, marketing, and high standards of customer service. The Special Sales Manager works proactively and collaborates across bookstore departments to create, refine, and maintain systems for sustainable sales growth that supports Greenlight Bookstore's mission and staff.
Summary of Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Direct ecommerce staff including Buying & Ecommerce Coordinator and ecommerce booksellers, and process ecommerce orders as needed
- Work with schools and other institutions to coordinate bulk sales, wishlists, offsite event sales, and other book sales
- Coordinate with Bookstore Manager, Buying & Inventory Manager, and Events & Marketing Manager on projects including preorder campaigns, subscription services, and offsite sales & events
- Identify staffing & resource needs & prioritize and direct staff accordingly
- Take responsibility for customer concerns or issues, maintaining high standards of customer service while setting clear boundaries
- Grow ecommerce sales and other special sales by identifying, developing and implementing marketing, service & logistics strategies
Qualifications:
- Ability to learn new systems and processes; familiarity with IndieCommerce or other online retail platforms a plus
- Familiarity with retail inventory and point of sale systems
- Customer service and client-facing experience
- Management experience including delegation, collaboration, and providing constructive feedback
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills, including creating processes and prioritizing
- Proficient in Excel & Google Suite as well as general technological proficiency
Direct Supervisor: Company Owner
Schedule: This is a full-time position and is overtime exempt in accordance with NYC regulations. Schedule may include in-store, offsite and administrative time. All managers work at least one closing shift onsite per week.
Compensation: This is a salaried position starting at $66,300 annually; compensation commensurate with experience. Benefits include 12 days paid vacation, optional subsidized health insurance through RWDSU Local 1102, and 401(k) contribution option.
Review: All employees are given an annual performance review to assess their work in their position. Ongoing check-ins happen at the discretion of the direct supervisor.
