Store Manager
Key Responsibilities
- Assist owner in the development and improvement of all aspects of bookstore operations while serving as a central presence in the store
- Oversee daily operations, including staff scheduling, task delegation, opening and closing procedures
- Model excellent customer service to ensure a warm and welcoming environment
- Lead store merchandising by creating, maintaining, and rotating displays
- Ensure all areas of the store are well-stocked, tidy, organized, and visually appealing
- Order and maintain store supplies
- Manage and mentor part-time staff offering regular feedback and encouragement
- Conduct regular staff performance reviews in collaboration with owner
- Assist buyers with inventory management including ordering, receiving, and returns
- Support author events and in-store programming in collaboration with Events & Marketing Coordinator
- Assist Children’s Lead Bookseller with school and community partner collaborations
- Assist with marketing and social media
- Suggest and implement strategies to increase sales and identify opportunities for growth
- Keep current with industry trends and new book releases
Qualifications
- Passion for books, reading, and independent bookstores
- 3–5 years’ experience as a bookseller (experience with Bookmanager a plus)
- Excellent written & verbal communication skills to effectively connect with customers, coworkers, and owner
- Proven ability to manage a fast-paced, high-volume, customer-focused workplace
- Strong leadership, time management and team-building skills
- Comfortable working both independently and collaboratively
- Ability to lift 30lbs. and stand for extended periods
- Excited about helping a small business grow
Requirements
Full-time, some evenings and weekends are required. Time off during holidays will be limited.
Salary & Benefits
Salary range: $55k to $65k depending on experience

Originally opened in 2012, City Lit changed ownership in the spring of 2021 and has seen continuous growth ever since. We anticipate moving locations in early fall 2026 and are looking for a visionary leader to help shape the new space.
