Position: Full-Time
The Paris Review is seeking a detail-oriented business and events manager with the ability to prioritize workloads in a creative and fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate will be organized and self-motivated, a natural host, and will have a talent for collaborative work. This position reports to the executive director and assists in the day-to-day management of The Paris Review and its various business channels. The business and events manager will also work closely with the editor, managing editor, engagement editor, development director, finance manager, and a range of vendors. This is an essential member of a small team and the position is a great opportunity to learn about nonprofit management and publishing across multiple platforms.
Duties include:
- Assisting with partnerships, marketing, advertising, reporting, and certain financial duties.
- Managing The Paris Review’s online Shopify store. Liaising with designers and suppliers on new merchandise items and managing inventory, including the Paris Review Print Series.
- Liaising with magazine printer, fulfillment house, customer service team, and vendors.
- Overseeing magazine newsstand distribution, including independent bookstores, hotels, shops, and museums.
- Leading the planning and execution of 8-10 Review events per year, including launch parties, one-off events, book festivals and art fairs, and festivities for our 75th anniversary in 2028.
- General support for the Revel, the Review’s annual fundraising gala, and other special projects, as needed.
- Office management.
Desired Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree and a passion for literature.
- 2+ years of prior experience in project or events management or office administration. Experience within a literary, arts, and/or nonprofit environment is highly preferred, though we welcome candidates with nontraditional career trajectories.
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
- Microsoft Office Suite proficiency required. Adobe Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator) proficiency preferred. Familiarity with Bill.com, QuickBooks, Shopify, and Airtable a plus.
Salary range: $55,000–$70,000, commensurate with experience.
This is a full-time position based in our New York City office. (Mondays and Fridays are currently remote during the summer months; Fridays are currently remote year-round.) Benefits include employer-paid medical, dental, and vision insurance, paid time off, and a 403(b) retirement plan.
