Position: Full-Time, Hybrid

SUMMARY:

The Publicist will be responsible for overseeing Yen Press publicity efforts, primarily focusing on securing earned coverage of key upcoming releases and initiatives.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Leading Yen Press publicity efforts in the reviewer and influencer space, including developing and growing the network of Yen Press contacts and the creation of publicity plans for key releases that include manga, manhwa, light novels, middle grade graphic novels, translated literature, and more.
  • Drafing and submitting press releases to key trade and publicity partners to announce key Yen Press releases and initiatives.
  • Overseeing and executing the submission of digital review copies, physical galleys, and final printed books to trade reviewers, media outlets, and influencers for review consideration.
  • Attending to award submissions for relevant key releases, such as category specific awards (e.g. American Manga Awards) and genre specific awards (e.g. Edgar Award).
  • Negotiating and coordinating paid integrations with influencers and content creators to promote key Yen Press releases.
  • When applicable, directly communicating with authors, artists, and creators of Yen Press titles on interview opportunities, event appearances, and social media collaborations.
  • Planning, producing, and hosting panels and programming at conventions and events.
  • Communicating with industry partners and licensors to plan for creator appearances at conventions, events, and press sessions.
  • Additional marketing tasks in the realm of events, advertising, and social media as necessary. 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Three to four years of publicity experience in the traditional publishing industry
  • Experience pitching to media and press and presenting in front of internal and external partners
  • Existing relationships with national and regional media contacts and influencers
  • Ability to read community and marketing trends within the manga, anime, webcomic, and graphic novel space
  • Experience using media databases, such as Muck Rack and Cision
  • Passion and interest in manga, anime, webcomics, and graphic novels
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & ABILITIES PREFERRED:

  • Experience promoting children and middle grade publishing in a marketing and publicity capacity
  • Experience with digital cataloguing and galley servies, such as Edelweiss and NetGalley
  • Experience media training and prepping creators 

ANTICIPATED SALARY: $55,000 - $65,000 per year
