Dear Reader,
I came across an article about woolly mammoth bones discovered in a bog near where I live in New Hampshire and got chills when I read it--the kind I hadn't experienced since I was a kid. Woolly mammoths! The makings of a great adventure story. Then I learned about current efforts to create hybrid woolly mammoths to help slow down Earth's rapidly melting Arctic permafrost and realized I could weave adventure, science, discovery, and community action into a middle-grade page-turner. I'm hoping your kid readers will agree with #1 NYT bestselling author Tui T. Sutherland that it's "an imaginative adventure with a very relatable hero, a cast of quirky characters... and a bedrock of fascinating science that's perfect for curious kids--plus the world's cutest baby woolly mammoth!"
Enjoy my "mad-scientist shenanigans and a high-stakes climate caper" (Azadeh Westergaard, The One & Only Googoosh).
